River Rock Casino Resort

Richmond, British Columbia, Canada

A resort on an arm of the Fraser river outside Vancouver, with a marina of its own along the bank

Casinos are for adults only. In Canada the minimum age is 19 in most provinces and 18 in Québec; elsewhere it depends on where you are.

At arm’s length

The lobby is finished in stone and dark timber, and river rock is used as a facing on the piers, which is where the name comes from. Wide windows on the water side face the moorings. The show theatre is a flat hall that can be seated or cleared.

From the door

The resort opened in 2004 on the middle arm of the Fraser in Richmond. It is a low, spread-out complex rather than a tower, with a hotel wing, a theatre, restaurants, a spa and a car park arranged around the main hall, and a marina and floatplane dock on the river side. Later work added a second hotel building on the same site.

From the road

Richmond lies south of Vancouver on the Fraser delta, flat ground crossed by dykes and sloughs. Vancouver International Airport is a few minutes away on the same island, and the Canada Line rail service stops at Bridgeport beside the resort. From the water the complex is the largest thing on this stretch of the bank.

One thing to arrangeFlight paths and rail run close by, so ask for a room away from the airport side if noise matters to you.

Three distances, one hotel: none of it is a promise about a stay. We work from published sources and say so plainly; the month at the foot of the page is when we last went over them.
