Open sleeping pods in one shared room, where the bunk is yours and everything around it is not

At arm’s length

A pod is an open bunk in a timber frame, without a door or a curtain across the front. Each one carries a mattress, a light, a socket, a shelf and a small screen at the foot end. Bunks are set in pairs, one above the other, along the walls of a single large room.

From the door

The company runs several addresses across the city, and the buildings are ordinary storefronts and low blocks rather than purpose-built hotels. The plan inside is always the same: one open room of bunks, a kitchen, a work table and shared bathrooms, with no private rooms at any address. A single membership works across the locations, so a guest can move between them without leaving the network.

From the road

The addresses sit in different parts of Los Angeles, among them Hollywood, Los Feliz, downtown and the coast at Venice. Each stands on a normal commercial street, with shops and cafes on the same block, rather than in a hotel district. Because the city is spread out, the choice of address decides how much driving or transit a stay involves.

One thing to arrangeThere are no private rooms and no doors on the pods, so decide whether that suits you before you commit.

Three distances, one hotel: none of it is a promise about a stay. We work from published sources and say so plainly; the month at the foot of the page is when we last went over them.
